The David Keith Changing Lives Scholarship
Nova Southeastern University
Established in 2022, the David Keith Changing Lives Scholarship is awarded annually through the Nova Southeastern University School of Optometry in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This scholarship reflects David’s deep commitment to giving back to the eye care industry and fostering the growth of future optometrists in Florida.
David established this scholarship as part of his ongoing effort to support the development of the next generation of optometrists in Florida. He recognizes the high level of academic commitment required to excel in the field and aims to provide both financial support and encouragement to students as they prepare for their careers. With a strong belief that Florida is home to some of the best optometrists in the country, David hopes this scholarship will help ensure that emerging professionals have access to the resources and support they need to succeed and serve patients for years to come.
The David and Jeanne Keith Changing Lives Scholarship
The University of Pikeville
In 2024, David Keith expanded his commitment to optometric education by establishing the David and Jeanne Keith Changing Lives Scholarship at the University of Pikeville College of Optometry in Pikeville, Kentucky. Named in honor of David and his mother Jeanne, this scholarship recognizes both his deep Kentucky roots and his ongoing dedication to supporting promising students in optometry.
The scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates a strong commitment to their studies and a dedication to the field of optometry. Special consideration is given to students who demonstrate financial need, ensuring that those who require additional support have access to the resources necessary to succeed.

2024: Robert Harkleroad
(David and Jeanne Keith Changing Lives Scholarship – University of Pikeville)
A first-generation college student from Apollo, Pennsylvania, Robert Harkleroad earned his bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania. His interest in optometry was sparked through shadowing optometrists and participating in a vision therapy-focused internship. Drawn to the welcoming community and scenic beauty of Pikeville, he chose the University of Pikeville College of Optometry, where he feels he can make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients, particularly in vision therapy.
2024: Marina Rios-Vasquez
(David Keith Changing Lives Scholarship – Nova Southeastern University)
Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Marina Rios-Vasquez developed a passion for optometry after experiencing the life-changing impact of her first pair of glasses as a child. That moment of clarity fueled her desire to help others achieve better vision. She chose to attend NOVA Southeastern University’s College of Optometry for its strong academic reputation and high board-passing rates. Her time at NOVA has allowed her to grow both academically and personally, reinforcing her commitment to the field of optometry.
